OTTAWA, March 21, 2016 /CNW/ - Canada's largest union in the private sector will be available to comment on Tuesday's federal budget, both during the media lockup, and after.
"We will be looking for action from this government to get the economy moving and producing good jobs for Canadians," Unifor National President Jerry Dias said.
Dias will be available for interviews following the budget lockup. As well, Unifor Economist Jordan Brennan will be attending the media lockup and will be available for comment during the event.
In its submission to pre-budget hearings, Unifor made several recommendations, including:
- Infrastructure investments across Canada to stimulate the economy
- Creation of a Canadian Development Bank to provide funding for key sectors of the Canadian economy
- Support for the auto sector
- Support for the aerospace sector and its key players, including Bombardier
- A multi-dimensional natural resource strategy in key industries such oil and gas, mining and forestry to ensure our raw resources are processed and manufactured into good in Canada

Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union merged.
