New collective agreement at Gecko Alliance

Members of Unifor Local 1044 at the Quebec City based Gecko Alliance have recently ratified a new, three-year collective agreement by 74%. This vote followed the conclusion of an agreement in principle reached on March 9 after more than 16 bargaining meetings. The members than 100 Unifor members who manufacture controls, keyboards, pumps, and various spa accessories had been without a contract since December 31, 2017.

“We were very proud to present this agreement to our members,” said Cathy St-Amand, chair of the bargaining unit. “Its reflects the efforts made by the members of the bargaining committee.”

Highlights include:

  • Salary increases of $0.70/hour in the first year, $0.50/hour in the second year, and $0.50/hour in the third year;
  • An increase of the employer's contribution to the group insurance plan to 55% as of March 1, 2018;
  • A Paid Educational Leave (CEP) contribution of $3,500 per year;
  • And several other gains.

Other changes included improvements to recognition of seniority, improvements to bargaining leave for members of the bargaining committee, and an increase in the hours devoted to the promotion of health and safety at work.
