National Update #1

Share

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

Our current collective agreement is set to expire on March 31, 2021. If we do not have a new collective agreement on that date then the current agreement remains in full force and affect while we continue to bargain.

We have been working with the various provincial local unions to finalize both the provincial and national proposals in order to enter into bargaining with the company. We have also had preliminary discussion with the company on when, and how to safely convene bargaining.

Bargaining will be different, it should be of no surprise to anyone that with the current lockdowns and restrictions as related to Covid-19, that we cannot bargain as we have in the past. We are exploring using video conference bargaining but have not finalized an answer on how we will proceed. If we do use a platform such as Zoom to bargain then that will slow down and affect how we are able to meet with the company and come to a new agreement.

To better communicate with the membership and make sure any updates are promptly received we have setup a new Loomis Bargaining section on this website, the current informal Loomis Bargaining Facebook page will only be used to direct members to the new website link and information. Ratifications of a new agreement will also have to be done differently; our 1600 members will not be able to meet face-to-face with their committees so we are preparing for online voting and possible video presentations. To facilitate this, it will be crucial for all members to provide us with a personal email address; this can be done through the new website link or through your local union.

For right now all we need is your continued support and patience while we work through the bargaining processes, beginning with the provincial bargaining, we will then move into the national bargaining once provincial bargaining is complete. If you have any questions or concerns please contact a member of the bargaining committee from your province.

In solidarity,

Your Loomis National Master Bargaining Committee
