VANCOUVER, Nov. 27, 2015 /CNW/ - Owners of several Vancouver container trucking companies are scheduled to meet today to discuss how to keep wages down in the sector, even if it means going to court to challenge the authority of the Trucking Commissioners.
"The sector finally has commissioners that have levelled the playing field and enforced the rules," said Gavin McGarrigle, Unifor's BC Area Director. "Some desperate companies will stop at nothing to suppress wages, even if it means wasting money on dead-end court battles."

The drivers at several of the companies meeting today are in a legal strike position. Today's meeting threatens to disrupt the hard-earned peace at Port Metro Vancouver, says Unifor.
"Truck company owners are fighting a losing battle: truck drivers deserve a living wage to support their families," said McGarrigle. "The sooner owners face the facts, the sooner Vancouver's ports can function normally."
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged.
