OTTAWA, May 13, 2015 /CNW/ - Armoured car workers at GardaWorld issued a strike notice on Monday, and will walk off the job on Thursday May 14th at 3:45pm unless the company returns to the bargaining table with an improved offer.
Workers at GardaWorld, who are members of Unifor Local 4266, rejected an offer which would have undermined their job and retirement security. "Companies like GardaWorld are turning good jobs into bad jobs," said Unifor Local 4266 President Andre Desjardins. "They are a very large and very wealthy company. Their concessions are far reaching and unacceptable to our members and their families. We urge them to come back to the bargaining table with an offer that doesn't unfairly squeeze its workers."
GardaWorld, one of the largest private security and cash logistics firms in the world, generated over $1.8 billion in revenues last year.
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 305,000 workers, including nearly 2000 armoured car employees. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged.
