OTTAWA, March 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Bargaining has stalled between Unifor local 4270 and the employer at The Recreation Association of the Public Service of Canada. The Recreation Association has two bargaining units, with one side having been recently organized. The employer initially refused to bargain with the newly-organized unit, but presented a final offer for both groups and applied to the Ministry of Labour for a vote.
"Unfortunately, our members aren't feeling heard by the employer," said Mike Armstrong, National Representative at Unifor. "Morale at the centre is at an all-time low due to the delays in bargaining, and when morale is low, the services at the centre suffer."
Aiming for an April 1 vote, the members of local 4270 are being encouraged to vote "No" to the employer's offer.
"It's a bad four-year deal and what we really need is to sit down and do some real bargaining," said Armstrong.
Unifor was founded Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers unions merged. With more than 300,000 members, Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector.
