Kitimat—Strong wage gains and benefits enhancements characterize the three-year contract signed by municipal workers represented by Unifor Local 2300 on February 8.

“The bargaining committee did outstanding work on behalf of municipal government workers in Kitimat,” said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. “These workers continue to make Kitimat’s public services great, and they have earned a fair contract.”

The new contract for the 120 municipal workers takes effect retroactively on January 1. It includes wage increases of 3 per cent, 2.5 per cent, and 2.5 per cent annually over the term of the contract. A variety of benefits will also be enhanced, including: long-term disability coverage, life insurance coverage, prescription drug coverage, and more. Unifor was also able to secure improvements to strengthen workplace harassment policies.

“Our members are passionate about serving the people of Kitimat,” said Unifor Local 2300 President Jonathan Aiken. “With this new agreement, we can continue to play our part in the community.”
