Alan Borovoy, a determined and generous advocate for civil liberties in Canada, made Canada a more just place. Alan’s death is a great loss to our country.

In addition to his leadership with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, Alan contributed to building many other important organizations, including some in the labour movement. Alan served as the Chair of the CAW Public Review Board, which helped ensure the development of the former CAW as a democratic and responsive organization. That work continued with the creation of Unifor, which resulted from the merger of the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union.

Many people in Canada have been impacted and inspired by Alan’s work. Unifor is proud to contribute to his legacy in our efforts to promote fundamental freedoms and human rights.
