OTTAWA, Dec. 15, 2015 /CNW/ - Unifor and its Local 1688 have now resolved the airport labour dispute. After several days of bargaining with the employer – Coventry connections, the Union held an all-day meeting on Monday. The airport taxi drivers voted unanimously to return to work. Since the Employees are now working for Coventry Connections directly, the Union took the step of disbanding the former airport taxi bargaining unit. That means the employees will be working under the Blue Line roof sign.
"This has been a long and difficult dispute and I am proud of the dedication our members have shown throughout," said Harry Ghadban, Unifor's Eastern Ontario Director. "All of the members now hope that the Company can work with us and put the conflict aside so that we can concentrate our efforts on serving our customers. We have to cooperate to face the many other challenges facing the industry."
Full service at the Ottawa International Airport should resume immediately.
Unifor represents the majority of taxi drivers in the Ottawa area.
Unifor is Canada's largest union in the private sector, representing more than 310,000 workers. It was formed Labour Day weekend 2013 when the Canadian Auto Workers and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union merged.
