Workers in the Truro and Amherst, Nova Scotia branches of the Community Credit Union ratified a tentative agreement with their employer on May 14, narrowly avoiding a strike. Bargaining had reached an impasse in recent weeks and a strike mandate was given by the membership of Local 2107, but a breakthrough on May 13 during the last-chance conciliation meeting finally made a deal possible.
“The workers in this unit deserve kudos for their commitment to the bargaining process,” said Darlene McIvor, National Representative. “It was a hard round of bargaining and though no one wanted to see a strike happen, they never once flinched.”
The four-year deal, with one year already passed, sees wage increases in each year, a choice of bumping or severance in cases of job redundancy, enhancements to sick time and vacation and retirement incentives.
“We’re proud to see this resolved without strike action and pleased the workers’ concerns were addressed in this deal,” said McIvor.
