TORONTO – Brink’s Canada Ltd. workers in two Unifor bargaining groups, one in Ottawa region and the other covering the remainder of Ontario, have ratified new four-year contracts.
“These were very difficult negotiations,” said Unifor Assistant to the National Secretary-Treasurer Jenny Ahn. “In the end we were able to ratify new collective agreements in the face of a rapidly changing industry.”
The two bargaining groups voted in favour of new contracts that include improved benefits, the elimination of forced overtime, and significant wage increases, particularly in female dominated divisions. The new contracts share a common expiry date of August 26, 2021.
“Ultimately I don’t think either side left the table completely happy but I believe we achieved a fair deal that sets a common standard across the regions,” said Unifor Representative Mike Armstrong.
Approximately 1,000 armoured car drivers and messengers, members at Unifor Local’s 27, 103, 112, 195, 229, 504, 598, 599, 1359, 1106 and 4266, are covered under the new collective agreements in Ontario.
Members at Unifor Local 114 in British Columbia are still conducting scheduled votes on a tentative agreement with Brink’s Canada Ltd.
