Harper government telecom policy in disarray, Unifor says

TORONTO, Oct. 8, 2013 /CNW/ - Industry Canada's rejection of a planned investment in MTS-Allstream for unspecified national security reasons is another sign the federal government's entire telecommunications policy has failed, said the leader of Unifor, Canada's largest telecommunications union.

Unifor approves seventh and last agreement with Kruger Inc.

DEER LAKE, NL, Oct. 7, 2013 /CNW/ - Unifor Local 495 have reached and ratified a new deal with Kruger Inc. in Deer Lake, marking the seventh and last agreement with the company over 18 months.

"By renewing these collective agreements in a proactive and collaborative manner, we're hoping it will enable the mill to reposition itself to take advantage of any opportunities in the future," said Unifor National Representative Gary Healey.

Unifor supports call for CPP reform and improvement

TORONTO, Oct. 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Unifor is commending Prince Edward Island Finance Minister Wes Sheridan for taking the lead among the Canadian provinces on reform of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP).

In a September 24 speech to the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council (APEC) AGM, Minister Sheridan proposed increasing the CPP benefit maximum for Canadians in the $25,000 to $102,000 income range.
