Pride Activist Course

5 Days

Must be an LGBT Unifor member. Not open to allies.

Are you a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender Unifor member? Are you interested in improving your social change skills?

This course will provide LGBT activists with the tools they need to mobilize, organize, and take action on issues facing the LGBT community and the union more broadly. Using a variety of workshops, open forums, and in-class discussions, participants will look at major issues such as hate-based violence, LGBT bullying, and the impact of the current political climate on LGBT equality; participate in hands-on opportunities to engage in current campaigns and international struggles; make plans for increasing our union presence at events such as World AIDS Day, International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, and Pride; and develop skills to effect change in the union, the workplace, and the community around LGBT equality issues.

Participants will leave with a strong sense of how to work effectively within the union, and how the union has been, and can be, a vehicle for social change.  Please note that this course is not open to allies.  Allies interested in working for change should consider the one week Human Rights course.
